The JCR Committee represents the undergraduate student body of St Catz. We’re here to represent your views, address your concerns and organise a whole load of amazing events!

Committee members are elected in Hillary or Trinity term and they hold the position for one academic year.

Hello everyone, I’m Heqin (He/Him). I’m a second year Law student from Singapore and I’m very happy to have the pleasure of serving as Secretary for the Catz JCR. I perform a variety of administrative tasks in the JCR. You’ll receive emails from me regarding a variety of things, but primarily regarding open meetings, JCR Committee elections and referendums. I am also one of the people who you can consult regarding questions about the JCR Constitution and Processes Handbook. Treasurer

Hi – I’m Laurentius (He/Him). I’m a second year E&M student and am excited to be your Treasurer this year. My job is to keep track of the budget and reimburse the necessary people. I will also be taking part in rent negotiations with college on behalf of the JCR. I’m excited to be a part of our JCR committee and look forward to all the fun that should come with it. Hi everyone! I’m Scott, a second year medic at Catz and I will be your men’s welfare rep for this year. I hope to be a friendly face for all members of Catz to come to if they need support. I also want to raise awareness about the mental and physical challenges that men and others could face. My role also includes running things like the weekly Munch and I will do my best to make sure that people’s wants are met. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you want support with anything!

LGBTQ+ Welfare

Hi, I’m Thomas (he/him). I’m a [third] year law student and this years LGBTQ+ welfare rep. As one of your welfare reps, I will be available to chat with you about any problems you have, or refer you to someone who can provide you with the help you need.   I really want to make your experience here at Catz as great as it can be! Although I am the LGBTQ+ welfare rep, I am happy to talk to anyone about any manner of support. You’ll see me and the other welfare reps around college, most prominently every Sunday when we set-up and host munch (a popular weekly event where we provide snacks to boost your mood). We also fill the plodge box with sexual health and sanitary products. I look forward to meeting you over the coming year and feel free to contact me with any issues you may have or even just for a chat!

Hey there! We’re Esme (she/her) and Leon (he/him), studying English & History and History of Art, respectively. As your entertainments reps, our goal for this year is to get as many of you as possible to attend and enjoy each and every entz! With themes like Disco of the Decades, College Catzfish (or Bopplegangers) and Spotify Wrapped, as well as opportunities for all students to contribute their own ideas, preferences and involvement, we want you all to want to join in! We recognise just how important college bops and events are to the formation and growth of an intergrated Catz and uni community. By collaborating with fellow JCR committee members and entz reps from other colleges, we plan to bring you some of the most iconic bops in Catz history and, hopefully, some of your favourite moments of the year ahead:) Don’t shy away from sharing any ideas you have and let us know if you’d like to get involved at any point, in any way! Loads of fun new things ahead:;)

Hi everyone! We  are Muhammad (he/him) and Martha (she/her), both 2nd years at Catz. Muhammad studies Biology and Martha studies English and French and we are your JCR Fresher’s representatives for this academic year. Our responsibilities include organising everything related to freshers week and helping with the induction process of new undergraduates to the student body and college. We completely understand that moving away from home to university is a completely new experience for the vast majority of freshers so we are here to answer any queries before, during and after freshers’ week or in the space of your first year as a whole. No question is a silly question so feel free to contact us with any you may have. We also organise stash (college clothing) so make sure to keep an eye out for our emails regarding this!

Clubs and Socs

Hi I’m James, I study Materials Science and I’m the Clubs and Socs rep. I deal in all things Club and Soc (societies), however my main role is reimbursing people for Uni-sports membership fees and the expenses of catz clubs and societies. I’m also the person to come to if you’d like to start your own society or if you have any questions about joining one or what can and can’t be reimbursed so feel free to contact me if you need.

IT

Hi, I’m Will (he/him)! I study Computer Science and am honoured to be this year’s IT rep. My role involves helping fix any technical issues you might have, especially in freshers week with Eduroam! I am also responsible for running referendums and elections for committee positions, and maintaining the JCR website. I also help to liase with the college to setup mailing lists. Careers and Academic Affairs

Hii my name is Niamh (she/her) and I am studying Experimental Psychology! I am really excited to be your Careers and Academics Rep. I will try my best to make sure that students in college feel supported in their studies, and work to make exciting opportunities as accessible as possible. I will also be responsible for reimbursing the cost of textbooks you buy through the year via reviewing book grant applications, and voicing concerns between the JCR and the library (when it reopens!). Oxford SU

Hi everyone, I’m Amara (she/her) and I study English. As your Student Union rep for this year, I vote on behalf of the JCR at SU Council Meetings and keep the JCR updated about the SU’s activities. I also consult the JCR on controversial motions, working with the committee to ensure the best outcome for all Wheels. Hi! We’re Amber (she/her) and Sasha (they/them), and we’re the Catz art reps! We’re a combination of humanities, with Amber studying French and Sasha studying English, and we’re very excited to be holding this year’s arts events. As people who both have a passion for the arts, we’re very committed to keeping the Catz art scene alive and well, as well as keeping collective spirits up amid the pressures of the academic year! Ideas for this year’s arts events include poetry nights, T-shirt screen printing, paint and sip, and of course, a continuation of the iconic Catz music night. We’re looking forward to seeing you all at our events, so stay tuned, and of course, feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Hi everyone, I’m Emily and I am this year’s access rep for the JCR committee. I’m currently studying biomedical sciences at Catz and I come from Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. Being from a single-parent household in the north, I feel passionate that there is more the college and the university can do to make Oxford more accessible to all, no matter your background. My role involves coordinating with the outreach and admissions team, as well as being a helping hand for current students whose circumstances, financial or otherwise, may have changed and require extra support. The JCR Social Backgrounds Representative has overall responsibility within the JCR to represent working class, low income, state comprehensive school educated, first generation university attendees, student parents, young carers, foundation year students, care experienced and estranged students so that they may participate as fully as they wish in university and college life without fear of offense, intimidation, or discrimination.

Hey everyone, we’re Ainsley and Tanush, your International Students Reps here at Catz! We both grew up in Hong Kong but hail from a diverse background including Australia, India, Canada, France and now the UK. We know how hard it can be moving to a foreign country for University and living so far away from family but we’re here to ensure that everyone feels included and can call Catz their second home! We look forward to meeting and getting to know lots of you in the next year and to continue fostering a warm, welcoming, and vibrant international student community. Hi! We are Caroline (she/her) (left) and Jasper (he/they) (right) and we are your LGBTQ+ reps for this year. We are here to offer support to LGBTQ+ students alongside the welfare and other reps and are always open to a friendly chat, or a more serious discussion if you need it. Community is our main focus, so we will be organizing lots of queer events for the college! We are also responsible for the gender expression fund, so please get in contact with us if you’d like any affirming items reimbursed: any claims will be made anonymous to the college by us.

Hi! I’m Lacey (she/her, a second-year lawyer, and I’m your women’s rep this year. My responsibilities include maintaining Catz’ embracing environment to all genders, providing a welcoming and inclusive presence within the college, and supporting and working closely with other college reps (welfare, LGBTQ+, BAME, disability, class, etc…). I would love to get as many people involved in continuing the college’s welcoming atmosphere and hope to hold exciting socials to reflect the 50 years of women in Catz coming up later in the academic year!!

Hi, I’m Erin and I’ll be your Suspended Students Rep! I’m 3rd Year PPL, and I love theatre, animals and a bit of true crime… I suspended my studies in HT of first year to pursue an ADHD diagnosis, so I know how hard it can be. During my time in the role I promise to do all I can to make the suspension process as pain-free and positive as possible!

Charities

Hey! We are Josh (he/him) and George (he/him), both studying languages and linguistics. We are excited to be your charity reps for this year, putting on events and weekly quizzes in order to raise money for the chosen charities, and also keeping the college community aware of the many good causes here in Oxford. The charities we are fundraising for will be Emilie’s Charity and then another voted for in college, so keep an eye on emails from us! Ethics and Environment

Hi! We are Matthew (he/him) and Ken (he/him) (Geography/Chemistry) and we are your Ethics and Environment reps this year. We will be proactive in trying to reduce the impact of our college and its members upon the environment both around Catz and on a wider scale. We’ll be working with everyone within the JCR to identify the areas of potential improvements and ensuring all communication is transparent and accessible across college.
